Will getting the H1N1 vaccine prevent me from having more immunity in the future?
Question by Monica: Will getting the H1N1 vaccine prevent me from having more immunity in the future?
I read that older people have some immunity b/c they were exposed to a similar flu virus a while ago. Will getting the new vaccine prevent me from having this same exposure in the future?
In response to the nurse:
So what is better, to get the vaccine or to be exposed to the virus w/o it? Wondering if it is similar to an antibiotic where overtime they stop working if you take them often… I havent had the seasonal flu in over 10 years and I dont get the vaccine for that.

What you read was that older people MAY have some immunity.
Flu viruses mutate so rapidly, I doubt that any vaccine you get in the near future will provide you with immunity against all future flu viruses but a vaccine MAY help you with viruses that have antigenic similarity to those contained in the vaccine.
