REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, Kotamobagu – A total of 11 residents Gogagoman Village, West Kotamobagu District, City Kotamobagu (KK), North Sulawesi, were treated at General Hospital (RSU) Kandou Manado, because of unexpected (suspected) contamination with the H5N1 virus.
“The patients are still in the status of suspect, so it has not been declared, but they have been undergoing treatment for bird flu patients,” said Public Relations Kandou Hospital, Doctor Jiimy Tomuka, in Manado, on Monday.
Tomuka clarified the patients were referred to the General Hospital of the Hospital Datoe Kandou Binangkang Kotamobagu City, totalling 10 people, but that one person was also treated since the introduction from direct contact with the patient. Tomuka said the patient was isolated in a room D5 Kandou Hospital and treated in accordance with the procedure, where the officers had to use special clothing for their care, to avoid undesirable things.
“We are awaiting the results of observation for all patients and hope that they were not exposed to the virus, because their condition is very excellent now, so the city hopes for the best,” said Tomuka.
Tomuka said that while awaiting results of observations of bird flu tests, the patients must remain under close observation until there is certainty of outcome. To this Tomuka said, the hospitals formed a special team of doctors to look after the patients. While the Chief Medical Officer of the City Kotamobagu, Salmon Helweldery, said of the patients who are being treated in RSU Kandou, there were four women and six men, and they come from one family.
According to Helweldery these patients that were treated were in the vicinity where poultry died suddenly of suspected H5N1 virus. So they are feared to be contaminated with the virus, so they must be admitted to the hospital. Helweldery said the results of inspection of all poultry in Gogagoman were positive for contracting the H5N1 virus, and they ruined all of them by burning to avoid transmission to humans.
